Dear Ministers, dear Visitors,

It is my honour to host the 7th Conference of European Ministers Responsible for Youth held in Budapest on 23-24 September 2005.

The main theme chosen for the meeting is "Human dignity and social cohesion: Youth policy responses to violence", which I believe is of great importance in today's society. We all have to be aware of the challenges and difficulties young people face in finding their place in our changing society. Thus, all member countries of the Council of Europe have to be devoted to the development of their youth policies and to the building of an inclusive Europe in order to facilitate young people's social advancement.

This conference will be a great event for developing recommendations and agreeing on common actions to prevent violence, as well as a useful platform for exchanging experiences and having conversations about our youth.

On our website you will find wide-ranging information about all aspects of the conference and also some more of the themes related to youth. Should you have any questions not addressed on the website, please, feel free to contact us.

I hope that you will find the agenda of the conference interesting, and you will enjoy your stay in Budapest.

Dear Colleagues, I am looking forward to seeing you in Budapest.

Kinga Göncz M.D.
